Well, if you thought “Gangs of Wasseypur” was a great film, then, the second instalment of the gangland saga is truly, a masterpiece. And if you are one of those who were disturbed because of the amount of bloodshed in the first part; then, you should definitely miss this one. The tamanchas & hathgolas in the previous film have transformed into machine guns & grenades. Anurag Kashyap has done an absolutely brilliant work & he just keeps raising the bar with each & every film he makes. In fact, it seems like benchmarks are a standard for the ace director.
We all know about the basic plot of the film. However, in the earlier part, it was Sardar Khan’s (Manoj Bajpai) character that fought against the might of Ramadheer Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). And here, it is his sons who carry the legacy forward. Faizal (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is a charsi who now takes centre-stage for the entire drama to unfold. The story also incorporates some of the most serious problems in the bureaucracy of India like election rigging & hooliganism. But no matter how great the intensity of the problems, they sure, will keep you engaged. The film is bloody, violent & terrifying; yet, very witty in the narration. In fact, Anurag hasn’t even spared the film fraternity. In one of the scenes, Ramadheer Singh’s character says, “Jab tak iss desh mein cinema hai, sab Ch*tiya bante rahenge.”
The performances in the film are flawless. Nawazuddin Siddiqui shines as a 5 feet something with a gun in his hand & a violently-cute smile on the lips. He is adorable in one scene & a coldblooded goon in the other. Tigmanshu Dhulia has a smaller role as compared to the previous film; but he is convincing, nevertheless. And now, coming to the “Womaniyas of Wasseypur”. Huma Qureshi has done a wonderful job as Nawazuddin’s young wife. However, no one beats Nagma Khatoon i.e. Richa Chadda. She has, undoubtedly, rendered her finest performance, till date. The others including Piyush Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Rajkumar Yadav & many more have done complete justice to their respective roles. However, the surprise package in the film is debutant Zeishan Quadri; who is also one of the writers of the film. He plays the character of Definite; Sardar Khan’s fifth son & a person obsessed with Salman Khan. Also, the background score & music of the film is commendable. It betters the movie experience. You feel like the folk songs have been married to the urban, western beats which results in a soothing experience.
So, on the whole, “Gangs of Wasseypur 2” is a must watch for every movie-goer who wishes to experience raw cinema. It’s rustic, it’s rugged & Anurag Kashyap is truly, a renegade, who is married to cinema & “Gangs of Wasseypur 2” is his style of an orgasm.
